The amendments to Articles 24 and 40 of the Constitution refer to the issue of religious freedom in Mexico and the Mexican state's secular character. So it has to do with the first, the current text, as approved, include two more rights in article 24. These rights are: freedom of ethical convictions, and the right to freedom of conscience. Meanwhile, the latest draft of article 40 of the Constitution, adds the word secular to qualify the Mexican Republic. The work try to show, through ten core arguments, as both constitutional amendments, rather than expanding the protection space of the human rights of Mexicans, or specify with better legislative technique the existing rights, opens the possibility to give any content to the term "freedom of ethical convictions", thus generating legal uncertainty that may affect the enjoyment of human rights.
