Abstract

GARCIA-RAMOS, Juan Carlos et al. Study of the interaction of the compound monomercaptoundecahydro-closo-dodecaborate [B12HHSH]2- with Cu(II) using electrochemical and spectroscopic techniques. TIP [online]. 2011, vol.14, n.2, pp.90-96. ISSN 1405-888X.

In this paper we present spectroscopic and electrochemical studies of the chemical reaction between the salt Cu(NO3)2 2.5 H2O and the boron compound, monomercaptoundecahydro-closo-dodecaborate, [B12H11SH]2- in methanol. When the two substances were mixed a chemical reduction from Cu(II) to Cu(I) and an oxidation of the compound [B12H11SH]2- to [B12H11SSB12H11]4- were detected. The results obtained here may be useful in establishing a methodology to study the interaction of other metals with the compound [B12H11sH]2- in different solvents.

Keywords : Cu(II); spectrophotometry; monomercaptoundecahydro-closo-dodecaborate; cyclic voltammetry.
