Abstract

ELIZALDE CASTILLO, Fernanda; DIAZ-CARAVANTES, Rolando E.  and  MORENO VAZQUEZ, José Luis. Resilience in domestic water in communities of the Sonora river before the 2014 spill. Econ. soc. territ [online]. 2021, vol.21, n.66, pp.569-598.  Epub Oct 04, 2021. ISSN 2448-6183.  https://doi.org/10.22136/est20211715.

This study analyzes the components of resilience in the domestic water supply of Sonora river localities in the light of 2014 mine spill: institutions, systems, and agents. The methodology includes interviews with managers and users of water in three localities. As a result, in local water institutions there is better management with respect to state and federal ones. Concerning water supply systems, we concluded that they are insufficient or unavailable. On the other hand, agents at local- community level have a differentiated management capacity between localities, but similar at the household level.

Keywords : resilience; mine spill; domestic water; Sonora river; Mexico.
