Abstract

FLEXOR, Georges. Small grocery facing the "supermarket revolution": the case of Rio de Janeiro Metropolitan Area. Econ. soc. territ [online]. 2014, vol.14, n.45, pp.497-522. ISSN 2448-6183.

This paper presents the main results of a survey that characterizes the key attributes (ownership, operation, relationship) of small food shops in the Rio de Janeiro Metropolitan Area. The information gathered show these organizations can be "outdated and inefficient". They are still an important element of local life in the suburbs of large cities. It is stated that the functions and services provided by grocery stores deserve policies designed to improve their capacities and access to intuitions.
