Abstract

LUGO-MORIN, Diosey Ramón. The Portuguese rural space within the framework of the European common agricultural policy: some implications for family agriculture. Econ. soc. territ [online]. 2012, vol.12, n.39, pp.473-492. ISSN 2448-6183.

The European agricultural policy been has directed to support the prices and the intervention of the markets with a strong protection in incentives and measured subsides to the farming sector introducing a territorial and multi-sector logic. This policy has originated a reconfiguration and social re-composition of the Portuguese rural space that has particularly affected family agriculture. The study within the framework examines the institutional support of the European common agricultural policy and its impact on the strategies of reproduction of the farming families. It was concluded that the instrumentation of the European agricultural policy in the Portuguese rural space has hit negatively to the small units originating inside it a reformulation of its strategies of reproduction.
