Abstract

FERNANDEZ-SATTO, Víctor Ramiro; ALFARO-RE, María Belén  and  DAVIES-VIDAL, Carina Lucila. Productive conglomerations and territory: Searching for a more holistic view to understand their contributions to development. Econ. soc. territ [online]. 2009, vol.9, n.31, pp.629-680. ISSN 2448-6183.

This paper examines the necessary conditions to transform productive conglomerations into potential development tools, particularly in peripheral contexts. We present two main theoretical viewpoints: the new economic geography and the contributions that emphasise non-economic factors. Finally, we retake two theoretical contributions, the first one in order to understand the behaviour of productive conglomerations under global capitalist dynamics, whereas the second one highlights the importance of national trajectories and the National State.

Keywords : productive conglomerations; regional development; capitalist dynamics; dependency trajectories; multi-scale.
