Abstract
VALERA-MEDINA, A.; SYRED, N. and GRIFFITHS, A.. Analysis of the Impact Caused by Coherent Structures in Swirling Flow Combustion Systems. Ing. invest. y tecnol. [online]. 2012, vol.13, n.2, pp.199-213. ISSN 2594-0732.
Amongst the technologies used in the energy and propulsion generation for the reduction of emissions, the use of swirling flows has demonstrated its high performance in anchoring the flame inside of the combustion systems. This, added to the use of premixing in the pre-chambers, has created one of the most innovative methods for the reduction of highly polluting particles such as NOx. However, the lack of understanding of these flows makes it necessary to increase the research on the topic in order to clarify themes as complex as the role of the coherent structures inside of the system. This paper explains some of the phenomena produced by some of the coherent structures observed in the system. The results showed the existence of complex Recirculation Zones (RZ), Precessing Vortex Core (PVC) and Combustion Induced Vortex Breakdown (CIVB).
Keywords : coherent structures; velocimetry; recirculation zone.
