Abstract

CAMPOS-ARANDA, D.F.. Flood Predictions Combining Regional and Single Site Hydrometric Information. Ing. invest. y tecnol. [online]. 2010, vol.11, n.3, pp.253-258. ISSN 2594-0732.

Initially, the statistic benefit of flood predictions obtained by combining reliable regional and scarce site hydrometric data is pointed out. Then the mathematical equations for combining mean and standard deviation logarithms of regional and site data are exposed, as well as the necessary expressions for desired predictions, based on Student's t distribution. Later two numerical applications are described, the first one based in Carrizal hydrometric station located in Santiago River in Nayarit and the second one which makes use of five water gauging stations in Tempoal River in Veracruz. Finally, a conclusion is formulated pointing out the simplicity of that method and the accuracy of its predictions.

Keywords : Flood predictions; regional methods; combining hydrometric data; Student's t distribution; Santiago River and Tempoal River.
