In this work the design, construction and performance of 40 kHz ultrasonic water level measurer is reported. Embedded into a remote unit, it is used to measure the water level in aquaculture ponds. A resolution of ± 0,003 m is attained with a measurement range up to 10 m. The sound speed is compensated with the measurements of the ambient temperature by means of a digital sensor that uses the 1-Wire ® communication protocol. The in formation is displayed in a LCD and sent to a local unit by means of the Bluetooth ® wireless protocol. A graphical user interface programmed in Matlab ® through a USB port allows real time monitoring. An EEPROM is connected by the I2C ® protocol and used as data backup. This system was developed with the microcontroller STAMP BS2p de signed for an ample range of applications, programmed with a high level language to drive the I/O ports directly. The equipment satisfies supervision and control requirements in aquaculture ponds through the automatic water level measurements.
