Abstract

GUTIERREZ-GUERRA, Ivis. This is not for everyone: The perception of Cuban migrants on recent changes in Canadian immigration policy. Pap. poblac [online]. 2020, vol.26, n.104, pp.51-80.  Epub June 02, 2021. ISSN 2448-7147.  https://doi.org/10.22185/24487147.2020.104.12.

As of 2016, the application management system for new immigrants to Canada has been modified with the entry into force of the Express Entry. While the principles and objectives of Canadian immigration policy were unchanged, there were significant variations in the approach with which they are addressed. The purpose of this article is to analyze, from the perspective of Cuban migrants residing in Canada, the modifications that were introduced, as well as their personal experiences in the process of implementation and insertion in the country of destination. Based on in-depth interviews, the emigration process and its assessment of it are described from the sample’s perspective. All of the above makes possible to reach conclusions about possible trends in Canadian migration policy and Cuban migration flows to that country.

Keywords : International migration management; Express Entry System; Cuban Emigration.
