Abstract

SOBERON MORA, José Antonio; CADENA VARGAS, Edel  and  OROZCO HERNANDEZ, María Estela. Economic Development and internal migration in metropolitan areas in Mexico 1990-2010. Pap. poblac [online]. 2015, vol.21, n.86, pp.147-170. ISSN 2448-7147.

This paper assesses whether economic growth is related to the increased migration of people, as establish by the neoclassical theory of the late sixties and later. To achieve this, a period spanning twenty years 1990-2010 is taken, dividing the country into four regions, each one of these in three sectors, in which it is contained a part of the 59 metropolitan areas defined in 2012. The results prove that the relationship is presented with greater intensity, in those areas where is detected a further growth belongs to the service sector in the southeastern region.

Keywords : Internal migration; development; economic growth.
