Abstract

GOMEZ SUAREZ, Águeda  and  VERDUGO MATES, Rosa María. Female prostitution in Spain: Building the customer profiles. Pap. poblac [online]. 2015, vol.21, n.86, pp.09-39. ISSN 2448-7147.

This paper deals with the dominant male form of eroticism and the main gender ideologies amongst users of prostitution in Spain. It begins with a review of the literature on this theme. This previously published work is then compared and contrasted with the results of our own research, carried out in the period 20102013 and financed by "Instituto de la Mujer" of the Spanish government. From the theoretical perspective of frame analysis we obtained a classification of clients: misogynist frame, friend frame, consumer frame, including the subgroup pseudoresponsible consumer, and critic frame. These categories are compatible with those obtained in earlier approaches.

Keywords : Gender; prostitution; clients of prostitution; frame analysis; theories of masculinity.
