Abstract

SERRANO-MARTINEZ, José María  and  GARCIA-MARIN, Ramón. Demographic regression in Spain: economic crisis and migratory cycle change. Pap. poblac [online]. 2013, vol.19, n.76, pp.89-128. ISSN 2448-7147.

The continued reduction in the birth rate and the increase in average life expectancy in Spain have resulted, in recent decades, to a rapidly aging of the population. For several years, the entry of numerous immigrants has originated a notable increase of his population and a brake of the aging. This migratory so intense balance positive sheet has stopped and is showing signs of change. Many elements indicate that the Spanish economy is suffering not only a temporary crisis, on the contrary, shows the exhaustion of a production model. It is not easy or quick to create a new one. All this raises that the economic serious existing circumstances will impede to return to migratory favorable rhythms. Is confirmed the tremendous demographic Spanish weakness, since scarcely his structural components have been modified. The threat of the demographic regression is announced in the near horizon.

Keywords : Spain; economic crisis; depletion of the production model; population; immigration; demographic decline.
