Abstract

VARGAS-VALLE, Eunice D  and  CRUZ-PINEIRO, Rodolfo. Youths from northern and southern Mexico in labor and educational inactivity: levels and associated factors. Pap. poblac [online]. 2012, vol.18, n.73, pp.105-148. ISSN 2448-7147.

The objectives of this work are to compare the level and composition of young population that neither studies nor works in northern and southern Pacific Mexico, as well as analyze the main socio-demographic and contextual factors associated to the state of "full inactivity" among youths or the option to devote to household among female youths; as sources microdata from 2000 and 2010 population censuses were used. Among the findings of the descriptive analysis distinguished the relative diminution of youths in "full inactivity", at the time that a dramatic decrease in unemployment among men and an increase in domestic work for women were registered, particularly in the northern border. The multivariate analysis of young unemployment and feminine domestic activity in adolescence verified the inequality of opportunities faced by the youths from the north and southern Pacific, not only as for human, economic and cultural capital of their families, but as for the structure of labor and educative opportunities in their own municipalities.

Keywords : nini youths; inactivity; domestic work; unemployment.
