Abstract

VEGA-BRIONES, Germán. Households and poverty in Ciudad Juarez, Chihu. Pap. poblac [online]. 2011, vol.17, n.70, pp.151-181. ISSN 2448-7147.

The main idea of this article is that although just one member of the family patticipe on the migratory process, the results of this mobility have repercutions on the whole family or household. In different cases the wife or some other family member take the role of the hosehold lider, developing activities that are new for them (he or she), such as to be in front of the family and doing adminstrative activities on the whole family. On the other hand, we think that the migratory proccess is a rational and strategy decision in order to receive remmitances that are used to improve the family conditions of life (included benefits for the house). An that all this decisions and activities generate changes into the structure and composition of the households (or families), and on the family relationships.

Keywords : family; international migration; gender.
