Abstract

DIAZ-TENDERO-BOLLAIN, Aída. Population studies and approaches of social gerontology in Mexico. Pap. poblac [online]. 2011, vol.17, n.70, pp.49-79. ISSN 2448-7147.

This article tries to relate the research lines of demographic studies or population studies in Mexico, whose object of study are the elderly, with first, second and third generation theories of social gerontology. To do so, we gathered a significant sample of the information on aging and the publications and their contents are classified following the American and European matrix of social gerontology. As a result, we obtain a clear panorama of which the research lines and prevailing approaches are, verifying the existence of a trajectory in social gerontology in Mexico.

Keywords : social gerontology theories; population studies; aging.
