Abstract

CARMONA–VALDES, Sandra Emma  and  RIBEIRO–FERREIRA, Manuel. Social activities and personal wellbeing in aging. Pap. poblac [online]. 2010, vol.16, n.65, pp.163-185. ISSN 2448-7147.

The purpose of this research was to distinguish the role social activities play in the personal welfare of the elderly in Monterrey, México. The sample was composed of 1057 men and women, at an age range of 65 years an older. Two scales were constructed to examine the information (social activity and personal wellbeing). After an exercise of logical regression, the results indicate a positive predictive relation of the social activities and schooling with the personal wellbeing of the elderly. In the analysis groups, socioeconomic strata, marital status and age do not significantly contribute to the personal wellbeing of the elderly people.

Keywords : social activity; personal wellbeing; autonomy; dependence; health; infirmity; Monterrey; Mexico.
