Abstract

Some factors, such as an increase in life expectancy, family and social changes in household structure and lack of incomes in advanced ages have contributed to the permanence of the elderly inside the labor market in an active manner. This article explores the heterogeneity among elderly population in the State of Mexico, in order to evaluate the factors that condition their participation in labor market, using a logistic regression model with data collected from the ESEDEM 2008. In conclusion, the main circumstances contributing to this fact are different for men and women. For men, distinguishable are health and economic transfers; while, for women, these circumstances are their marital status and labor history.
