Abstract

GOMEZ CARDONA, Santiago; HINESTROZA, Paula Andrea  and  MUNETON SANTA, Guberney. Demographic processes in Antioquia, Colombia, from inter-municipal kindred relations. Pap. poblac [online]. 2008, vol.14, n.57, pp.257-274. ISSN 2448-7147.

We employed the isonymy methodology so that through the study of the population's surname structures we gain access to the principal processes that have shaped the actual population distribution in the Department of Antioquia in the Republic de Colombia. Using SISBEN information, we obtained Fisher's alpha, and the dendogram that shows the relationship structure of municipalities. The Department's lowlands are the ones with the more recent processes of migration, otherwise, in the municipalities located in the southeast dwell the oldest populations, possibly the origins of the populations in other territories of the Department. The results match the most known population processes of the Antioquia Department; being so, we can affirm that the methodology is valid to approach the population dynamics in Colombian territories.

Keywords : isonymy; Antioquia; population structure; migration; family; surnames.
