Abstract

HIERNAUX-NICOLAS, Daniel. Time, space and transnationalism: some reflections. Pap. poblac [online]. 2007, vol.13, n.53, pp.47-69. ISSN 2448-7147.

This paper presents some reflections about the concept of transnationalism in a spatial-temporal perspective. In the first part, social models of time are presented, from the absence of a concept of time in primitive societies, going through the cyclical concept of traditional societies, the lineal one of the modernity, to the postmodern conception of time and space. Further on, the spatial dimension is integrated in order to be concerned, in the third part, by the articulation of those spatial-temporal conception transnational situations, and to conclude that the migrants in this situation, sustain a capacity to play with various concepts to build their own spatial-temporal model.

Keywords : migrations; spatial-temporal concepts; transnationalism.
