Abstract

PARTIDA BUSH, Virgilio. Demographic transition and the aging process in Mexico. Pap. poblac [online]. 2005, vol.11, n.45, pp.9-27. ISSN 2448-7147.

The different stages of the demographic transition are marked in the age composition of the population. In this work, we estimate the impact of each one of these phases in the accelerated process of aging that Mexican population will suffer during the first half of the XXI century. The repercussions of the elevated fecundity during the time of the pro-natal population policy will be visible in the increment of the senior population, similarly, the enlargement of surviving and the incidence of international migration. Even farther than year 2050, some reminiscences of the demographic past will be visible in the age pyramid.

Keywords : demographic transition; population aging; population age structure; senior population; Mexico.
