Abstract
PACHECO, Edith and BLANCO, Mercedes. Analysis of the age/period/cohort effect in the level of economic participation of three cohorts of mexican women. Pap. poblac [online]. 2005, vol.11, n.43, pp.79-103. ISSN 2448-7147.
The aim of this article is to discuss the complex problem of trying to distinguish the age, period and cohort effects in the female participation rates of three cohorts of Mexican women (1936-1938; 1951-1953; 1966-1968) belonging to two socioeconomic strata (middle and popular sectors). Around this phenomenon there are two basic positions, one that sustains that it is impossible to establish a distinction between the effects of the three variables and the other, to which this work adheres, that recognizes the complexities of the problem but nevertheless points to the possibility of applying the age-period-cohort analysis. One of the main results is that for the middle class women the cohort effect shows more intensity, while for the popular sector women the period effect is more significant.
