Abstract

LOPES PATARRA, Neide  and  BAENINGER, Rosana. Space mobility of the population in mercosul: tropolises and borders of Brasil. Pap. poblac [online]. 2004, vol.10, n.42, pp.73-100. ISSN 2448-7147.

The paper intends to summarize procedures and partial empirical results of a research regarding the interrelations between international migration, productive restructuration and Mercosul trade agreements. It was assumed that legal consolidation of Mercosul bloc is having varied effects on international migration involving new social groups influenced by historical trends, arriving and departing from new areas and impelled by new factors of attraction and repulsion. The international migration would in turn stimulate new demands for social policies guaranteeing migrant access to social programs of member countries, particularly in regards to social security, education and health. The paper ends with final remarks concerning theoretical and methodological issues, pointing out some new significative dimensions to be considered and indicating criteria for selection of some frontiers areas for case studies.

Keywords : international migration; border migration; mercosur; Brasil.
