Abstract

BAZANT, Jan. An alternative urban support system of the biotreatment and recycling of wastewater in low income settlements. Pap. poblac [online]. 2003, vol.9, n.36, pp.241-259. ISSN 2448-7147.

Local governments in Mexico do not count with sufficient financial resources or the sufficient water resources to extend the water supply infrastructure to low income settlements. These settlements are growing in a disorganized manner in the suburbs of the cities. This article describes an alternative «urban support system» that could provide low income urban settlers with a daily low volume supply of water by the biotreatment (with ecotechnologies) of their own wastewater. Because this water can be treated indefinitely, this will greatly improve the living conditions of these families, as well as will reduce the high level of pollution due to used wastewater spills in streets and ravines.
