Abstract

CASIQUE, Irene. Uso de anticonceptivos en México: ¿qué diferencia hacen el poder de decisión y la autonomía femenina?. Pap. poblac [online]. 2003, vol.9, n.35, pp.209-232. ISSN 2448-7147.

This work analyzes the relationships between two indicators of women's empowerment -women's decision-making power and women's autonomy- and use of contraception among Mexican women, using data from the National Survey on Family planning 1995. In general, women with higher level of autonomy are more likely of being in need of contraception, and higher levels of decision-making power and autonomy increase their likelihood of met need. Additionally, among women potentially in need of contraception but not using it, I find that those reasons like lack of knowledge or husband opposition significantly decrease as women's empowerment is higher.
