Abstract

VAZQUEZ, Gabriela; MCCAA, Robert  and  GUTIERREZ, Rodolfo. La mujer mexicana económicamente activa: ¿son confiables los microdatos censales? Una prueba a través de censos y encuestas. México y Estados Unidos, 1970-1990. Pap. poblac [online]. 2000, vol.6, n.25, pp.151-177. ISSN 2448-7147.

The purpose of this paper is based on the previous existence of the Integrated Public Use Microdata Series international (IPUMSi), which began in October 1999, supported by the Minnesota Population Center (MPC) at the University of Minnesota. The present paper tests the utility of a database proposed for IPUMSi. Although the integrated databases do not exist at present, we attempt to demonstrate their usefulness by joining together census samples from different countries. From a comparative perspective, we have applied a multivariate analysis, comparing censuses and the Urban Employment National Survey (ENEU). This comparison is chronological (1970-1990) and spatial (Mexico and the United States), focusing on Mexican-origin women, specifically in regard to female labor force participation.
