Abstract

HERNANDEZ ROJAS, Gerardo; COSSIO GUTIERREZ, Elda Friné  and  MARTINEZ COMPEAN, María Eugenia. Learning and Reflecting by Writing Academic Logs. RMIE [online]. 2023, vol.28, n.97, pp.563-585.  Epub June 09, 2023. ISSN 1405-6666.

Writing logs have the recognized potential to promote epistemic writing, especially when teachers guide them. In this study, the aim was to determine the effectiveness of an experience in pedagogical innovation based on writing logs. The logs were developed from writing-to-learn protocols (WLP) that encourage constructive activities through cognitive and metacognitive strategies, and the planning of academic essays. Work was carried out with a group of twenty-five university students, who created writing logs with two conditions, WLP writing and essays produced: a) collaboratively, and b) individually. The results showed that both conditions led to significant attainment, both in improving the learning of curriculum content and in writing essays with greater quality in composition and structure. Discussion centers on the implications of the results, the pedagogical proposal, and the work's limitations.
