Abstract

HERRERA-LOPEZ, Mauricio; PANTOJA ANAMA, Diana Marcela  and  VITERI ERASO, Maria Alejandra. Design and Validation of a Scale of Bullying Bystander Roles and an Explanation from the Perspective of Moral Disengagement. RMIE [online]. 2022, vol.27, n.94, pp.911-938.  Epub Aug 22, 2022. ISSN 1405-6666.

The objective of this study was to design and validate a scale of bullying bystander roles (5-EROB) in a random sample of 1,019 adolescents in southern Colombia. Evidence of content and construct validity was analyzed. Predictive validity was analyzed with the Bandura Scale of Moral Disengagement. The 5-EROB scale showed optimal psychometric properties for a five-factor structure: pro-bully bystander, defender, undecided bystander, indifferent bystander, and uninvolved bystander. The analyses indicate that the pro-bully role is explained in direct form by advantageous comparison, the attribution of blame, and dehumanization, while the defender role is explained inversely by displaced responsibility and dehumanization. The results validate the use of the 5-EROB scale, a pioneer in the Colombian and Latin American context.

Keywords : bullying at school; adolescents; bystander; measuring scale; validity; Colombia.
