Abstract

LUNA GUZMAN, Alejandra. Technical School Boards and the Construction of Pertinent Education. RMIE [online]. 2022, vol.27, n.94, pp.855-882.  Epub Aug 22, 2022. ISSN 1405-6666.

This article is based on a broader study aimed at analyzing the social practices of Technical School Boards (Consejo Técnico Escolar-CTE) as expressions of the new significance of policies of autonomous school administration. Theories of micropolitics at school and the microphysics of power are foundational. With a qualitative focus, semi-structured in-depth interviews were conducted with CTE members in Mexico City elementary schools. The results show that although pernicious social practices have persisted on these boards, at times such practices have been overcome to allow the construction of strategies and lines of action, and the activation of internal policies. The conclusion is that this provides the context and even transforms macro policies, which lead to more pertinent education and qualitative advances in the broader community.

Keywords : school boards; educational policy; autonomous administration; quality of education; school practices.
