Abstract

CRUZ FLORES, Gabriela de la  and  MATUS ORTEGA, Diego Ilinich. Return and School Conditions: Experiences of General High School Students in Mexico City. RMIE [online]. 2021, vol.26, n.90, pp.691-715.  Epub Oct 11, 2021. ISSN 1405-6666.

The purpose of this study is to analyze the school experiences of a group of young people who returned to general high school in Mexico City, and to weigh, from the school setting, some of the elements that facilitated or hindered their return. To examine the students' experiences, use was made of four dimensions that the literature claims to have been crucial in the inclusion of returning students: school culture, academic system, actions and roles of educational agents, and student support. The results show that school conditions are not receptive to the needs of returning students; rather, the students adjust to the school system by deploying their personal resources and resilience. The conclusions offer minimal guidelines for favoring the inclusion of students returning to the school system.
