Abstract

GONGORA JARAMILLO, Edgar M.. Competitive Financing for Scientific Research in Mexico: Logic of Scientific Competition and Experience. RMIE [online]. 2021, vol.26, n.88, pp.149-172.  Epub Mar 24, 2021. ISSN 1405-6666.

This article explores the dynamics of competing for financing to carry out scientific research in Mexico, and identifies the strategies that scientists implement to finance their projects. The problem is centered on scientists' experiences with funding at the institutions where they work and on Mexico's sectoral setting of science, technology, and innovation. The main empirical resource is a set of interviews conducted with academics at six institutions of higher learning. The analytical perspective is based on the sociology of science, focused on contemporary problems of the scientific profession in academia. The results indicate the existence of a competitive circuit for obtaining financing in which the scientists' strategic action is relevant.

Keywords : financing research; scientific research; researchers; science; scientific policies.
