This article analyzes the situation of high school graduates in Mexico, by comparing the graduates from general high schools and technical high schools. The research is based on the data from two national surveys in Mexico: one on the employability of high school graduates, and the other on occupation and employment (ENILEMS and ENOE, both from 2012). The analysis is centered on comparing three results with respect to transitions after high school: access to higher education, finding a job, and the quality of the job. The main differences by type of high school are found in the probability of staying in school, which is higher for graduates from general high schools; and the probability of working in the informal economy, which penalizes the graduates of general high schools. No significant differences were found with respect to students' participation in the job market or their income. The results of all indicators underline the weak situation of female graduates versus male graduates.
