Abstract

This article presents the methodological approach of a formative evaluation of the educational model of a public university in Mexico. The method integrated three studies using techniques of content analysis, discussion groups, and psychometric strategies. Two questionnaires were developed: one with 15 dimensions and 115 questions, directed to students in the basic stage of their university education; and another with 19 dimensions and 133 questions, for students in the disciplinary and professional stages of their university education. The first questionnaire was completed by 7,951 students (31.8% of the total population) and the second questionnaire, by 8,018 students (20.71% of the total population). The results show the process of identifying the critical elements of the model and the advantages of determining appropriate procedures for guiding its improvement.
