Abstract

RODRIGUEZ-GOMEZ, Roberto. University Autonomy and the Rendering of Accounts. RMIE [online]. 2019, vol.24, n.82, pp.879-895.  Epub Feb 20, 2020. ISSN 1405-6666.

Are autonomous universities required by law to adhere to the standards for the public rendering of accounts, transparency, outside evaluation, and internal control as implemented by the Mexican government through norms and institutions? This article addresses the topic in order to identify the main points of inflection in the relationship between the government and autonomous universities during the current and past centuries. Before offering a novel response to the initial question, the article seeks to reflect on the changing perspective of the institutions and agents involved in the problem.

Keywords : university autonomy; rendering of accounts; university/government relationship; university policy; university administration.
