Abstract

BLOCK SEVILLA, David; RAMIREZ BADILLO, Margarita  and  RESENDIZ ZAMUDIO, Laura. How Much Does It Weigh? How Long Is It? A Teaching Experience in a One-room Elementary School. RMIE [online]. 2019, vol.24, n.81, pp.537-564. ISSN 1405-6666.

In the framework of a project that documents and analyzes successful strategies in teaching mathematics in multi-grade elementary education, this article analyzes the teaching work of a teacher in a one-room elementary school, with students from six grades. The curricular content--measurement--was taught in two class sessions. Each session used a different group organization. We analyzed the teaching situations implemented, the interactions among participants, and the implications for the knowledge of the mathematics concepts under study. We emphasize the favorable conditions that the teacher’s work established for joint learning among students of different ages and academic levels.

Keywords : teaching mathematics; elementary education; multi-grade teaching; measurement.
