Abstract

GONZALEZ-NIEVES, Silvia; FERNANDEZ-MORALES, Flavio Humberto  and  DUARTE, Julio Enrique. Effect of Working Memory and Mindfulness Training on the Capacity of Working Memory and the Mathematical Performance of Second Graders. RMIE [online]. 2018, vol.23, n.78, pp.841-859. ISSN 1405-6666.

The aim of this study is to evaluate two types of techniques for training working memory and their possible effects on learning mathematics. An intervention was carried out with eighty-four second graders, who participated in four training sessions: working memory, mindfulness, both working memory and mindfulness, and a control group (without training). Tests of mathematics and memory were given before and after the intervention. The results showed improvement in the capacity of working memory for the three experimental groups, but an increase only in mathematical performance for the group that received mindfulness training. The article concludes with a discussion of the findings.

Keywords : working memory; mathematics; academic achievement; training, attention.
