Abstract

RODRIGUEZ, María Nelsy; AGUILAR, Josefina  and  APOLO, Diego. The Challenge of Good Living in Teacher Education: Approximations from Universidad Nacional de Educación in Ecuador. RMIE [online]. 2018, vol.23, n.77, pp.577-596. ISSN 1405-6666.

Since 2007, Ecuador has promoted a model of social organization defined in the Constitution of 2008 and in various plans and programs focused on recovering the dignity and meaning of life for Ecuador’s people. The basic philosophy has been that of good living or sumak kawsay: harmonious, equitable, and collective development. Within this philosophy, education assumes a predominant role in public policy, which is considered an indispensable priority for good living. Based on a bibliographical review and an empirical approximation at Universidad Nacional de Educación (UNAE), the goal is to construct a starting point that will contribute to dialogue on the contributions of the philosophy of good living, as an orienting axis in teacher education.

Keywords : quality of life; teacher education; intercultural education; Ecuador.
