Abstract

GIL-GALVAN, Rosario. The Use of Problem-Based Learning in University Education: Analysis of Acquired Competencies and Impact. RMIE [online]. 2018, vol.23, n.76, pp.73-93. ISSN 1405-6666.

The objective of the research presented in this article has been to identify the competencies acquired by university students in relation to problem-based learning, and to analyze the degree of impact when this methodology is used. The study was based on a survey of 1,007 undergraduate pedagogy students at Universidad de Sevilla. The results indicate a generally positive attitude toward the use of problem-based learning as a method of teaching and learning; it can be classified as pragmatic since its impact is evaluated at an upper intermediate level. It is confirmed that in general, students have acquired the competencies analyzed in the study. Therefore, proposals are made to increase the use of problem-based learning at the university level.

Keywords : problem-based learning; higher education; educational innovation; teaching method; competencies.
