Abstract

MORENO OLIVOS, Tiburcio. The Curriculum of Argentine Secondary School Education. RMIE [online]. 2017, vol.22, n.73, pp.613-636. ISSN 1405-6666.

The objective of this article is to analyze the development of the curriculum for secondary school education in Argentina. To understand the complexity and challenges currently faced by secondary education, it is necessary to address elements from the context; thus a brief review is made of the creation and development of secondary schools; then some of the most significant curriculum changes generated by recent reforms are studied. The final focus is a review of the secondary school curriculum, with an emphasis on its objectives, contents, organization, and the articulation among school cycles and with high school. Although important progress in secondary school education is recognized, the conclusion is that when moving from elite schools to schools for all, if true equal opportunity is not guaranteed, the result will still be failure.

Keywords : secondary education; analysis of curriculum; educational reform; Argentina.
