Abstract
SEGURA SALAZAR, Citlalli Melissa and CHAVEZ ARELLANO, María Eugenia. "Making a Dream Come True": Perceptions and Expectations Regarding Professional Studies Among Indigenous Students at Universidad Autonoma Chapingo. RMIE [online]. 2016, vol.21, n.71, pp.1021-1045. ISSN 1405-6666.
In this article we present the partial results of research carried out at Universidad Autonoma Chapingo in 2013 and 2014. The purpose of the document is to show the way university studies affected the recognition and ethnic belonging of indigenous students enrolled in the final years of their major. The research was conceived as a descriptive-interpretative study to address students' perceptions. We completed a mixed design to compile information from a questionnaire and in-depth interviews. According to the information obtained, these students express a process of continuity-discontinuity of ethnic identity. Because of their time at the university, they are able to show multiple forms of being indigenous as an adaptive strategy for various spaces.
