Abstract

PEREZ YARAHUAN, Gabriela. The Influence of External Evaluation on Government Programs for Basic Education, 2002-2012. RMIE [online]. 2015, vol.20, n.66, pp.685-710. ISSN 1405-6666.

One of the objectives of government program evaluation is to provide robust evidence in order to improve the performance of public interventions, and thus enable progress in the solution of social problems. However, in spite of the large number of external program evaluations in Mexico, few empirical studies have analyzed their influence on improving public policy instruments. This article presents the results of research on the effective use of evaluations in basic education programs from 2002 to 2012. The main findings show that the type of evaluation and the processes of communicating the results can be determining factors in the use of evaluation.

Keywords : program evaluation; social programs; educational programs; evaluation methods; basic education; México.
