Abstract
BARTOLUCCI, Jorge and BARTOLUCCI, Ernesto. The Application of the Program for International Student Assessment in Mexico: Cognitive Operations Used in the Science Answers. RMIE [online]. 2013, vol.18, n.58, pp.925-948. ISSN 1405-6666.
The type of examination given by the Program for International Student Assessment is unusual in the Mexican educational system. Instead of asking students to identify the correct response to a series of questions tending to have the same value, students are shown slides that measure their ability to complete one or more mental operations, such as: memorizing simple knowledge and applying it to the solution of a problem, handling various sources of information, or turning to other referents not considered in the original context of the question, before giving an answer. The article focuses on discrepancy, since it reveals what our students are accustomed to doing or not doing at school, as a result of the way that most institutions, both public and private, validate the routines of teaching and learning that are considered acceptable and desirable in the educational system.
