Abstract

GARCIA GARZA, Domingo. Contributions to the Analysis of Corporate Culture in Mexican Universities: The Case of Tec de Monterrey. RMIE [online]. 2013, vol.18, n.56, pp.191-221. ISSN 1405-6666.

The present article offers historical and sociological elements to explain the birth and expansion of corporate culture in private higher education in Mexico. The particular case of Tecnológico de Monterrey reveals that the adoption and teaching of corporate culture in the university is the result of Mexico's educational adaptation to the transformations of capitalism and the internationalization of higher education. Studying this institution with the theoretical framework of Pierre Bourdieu at the same time sheds light on the new forms of legitimating the formation of elites in Mexico. We demonstrate the way that Tecnológico de Monterrey participates in the social construction of a new economic vision based on the comparative advantages that are produced by articulating Mexico's economy with the global economy.

Keywords : higher education; education and culture; entrepreneurs; neoliberalism; internationalization; Pierre Bourdieu; Mexico.
