Abstract

GARCIA ALCARAZ, Jorge Luis  and  MORENO MORALES, Carmina Sara. Factors Considered when Selecting a University: Case of Ciudad Juárez. RMIE [online]. 2012, vol.17, n.52, pp.287-305. ISSN 1405-6666.

The selection of an undergraduate institution may be one of the most important decisions in an individual's life. An abundance of literature recommends a series of aspects to take into consideration, but few quantitative studies look at the factors students analyze when choosing a university. In view of this fact, the current article presents the results of an empirical study carried out in Ciudad Juárez, Chihuahua, where 300 undergraduate students were surveyed in relation to the attributes they took into account when deciding on a university. Factor analysis revealed that the students considered the economic situation, institutional and academic quality, and the school's infrastructure and administration.

Keywords : higher education; students; choice of university; social factors; academic factors; Mexico.
