Abstract

ALVARADO MARTINEZ ESCOBAR, María de Lourdes. Dolores Correa y Zapata: entre la vocación por la enseñanza y la fuerza de la palabra escrita. RMIE [online]. 2009, vol.14, n.43, pp.1269-1296. ISSN 1405-6666.

This article proposes to draw attention to a Mexican woman who-due to her nonconformance with the gender restrictions of the times, her love of literature, her vocation as a teacher, and her pedagogical and social concerns-left profound marks in her passage through life. Dolores Correa formed part of a small group of women of multiples facets-outstanding professionals, many dedicated to teaching careers- who lived in the second half of the 19th century; some of them lived to witness the transformations of the following century. By analyzing the life and work of Dolores Correa as a writer from Tabasco, we hope to address the interests, concerns, and problems of that generation of Mexican women at the vanguard-a generation of which Dolores Correa was an outstanding representative.

Keywords : history of education; women; teaching profession; literature; professional development; Mexico.
