Abstract

GOMEZ NASHIKI, Antonio. Violencia e institución educativa. RMIE [online]. 2005, vol.10, n.26, pp.693-718. ISSN 1405-6666.

This article analyzes the way violence is gestated, sustained and reproduced at school, resulting in a phenomenon considered normal in daily relations. Schools- their structure and functioning, defended by teachers in the framework of institutional discourse, and by students supported by their own code-promote discriminatory relations and are therefore producers of violence. From an ethnographic perspective, this research is centered on two public elementary schools in Mexico City, and is enriched by a study dating back to 1997, that compiles interviews with teachers, students and parents from various states of Mexico, with regard to the topic of school violence.

Keywords : School violence; elementary education; teachers; parents; Mexico.
