Abstract

MARQUEZ-SANCHEZ, Fidel. Prediction of maize synthetics made with single crosses. Agrociencia [online]. 2007, vol.41, n.6, pp.647-651. ISSN 2521-9766.

In maize (Zea mays L.) agriculture, producers may use commercial single crosses in order to make synthetics. In this case, it is convenient to know how much the synthetic yields compared to the mean yield of the participating single crosses. This study presents the deduction of yield prediction of a single cross synthetic, whose homozygous lines are unknown, using the prediction equation of a composite. The result is the same as the one previously found by two authors, though it is considered that the method presented in this article is less complicated.

Keywords : Synthetic; yield prediction; single crosses; maize (Zea mays L.).
