A key for the identification of 41 species of the genus Bursera known in the Mexican state of Michoacán is presented. Additionally, information is included regarding the availability of descriptions and illustrations of each of the species. The key is largely based on characteristics of leaves, inflorescences and fruits. Information regarding the importance, general geographic distribution and history of the knowledge about these plants in the state is also included.
