Abstract

OSORIO-PASCUAL, Ángel  and  QUIROZ-GARCIA, David Leonor. Pollen rain from the city of Oaxaca, Mexico. Polibotánica [online]. 2009, n.28, pp.161-190. ISSN 1405-2768.

Pollen rain from Oaxaca city and its surroundings was analyzed in order to determine the airborne plant taxa. There were established 11 collect sites: three parks in the city and eight localities in the outskirts. All samples were acetolyzed and observed under optical microscope. The pollen spectra for each place were obtained and there were applied classification and ordering methods. A total of 39 pollen types were recognized, nine of them were identified to family level, 26 to genus and four to species level. The pollen from Pinus, Alnus, Quercus and Cupressus genus as well as families Asteraceae, Poaceae and Amaranthaceae-Chenopodiaceae type were found in all samples. Pollen grains from the arboreal stratum were the best represented. Seventeen pollen types are potentially allergenic.
