Abstract

This paper provides a list of the 235 species of vascular plants with ornamental potential from of the State of Queretaro. They are found in different vegetation types or grow in waste or cultivated ground. A total of 74 families, 140 genera, 211 species, 18 varieties and seven subspecies are identified. The structural component s with ornamental value are, most importantly, the flowers and secondarily, the fruits. The dicotyledons with 147 species are the group of vascular plants best represented, and the gymnosperms with seven species are the group least well represented. The families with the largest number of species are Adiantaceae, Cactaceae and Leguminosae. The municipalities with largest number of species are Landa, Jalpan and Pinal de Amoles; those with the smallest number are Tequisquiapan, Villa Corregidora and Pedro Escobedo. The vegetation types with the largest number of species are Quercus forest, seasonal deciduous forest and montane rain forest, and with the smallest number of species the Abies forest, Juniperus forest and rosette scrub (matorral rosetófilo). The majority of the species come from the northern part of the state, which is located in the Sierra Madre Oriental.
